pre'28 Hopf Violin
Year: pre'28
Brand: Hopf
Model: Violin
Class: String
Owner: Jeff Hewitt

This one was a present from a friend. It was found in a Texas attic where the heat caused the glue to let go everywhere and the varnish was almost no existent. The top had to be removed, cracks repaired and braced, and everything checked. The hand writing inside shows that it was rebuilt in 1928. My best guess on it's age, late 1800s to early 1900's.

After the body was repaired, cracks cleated, the neck angle had to be set. Once the instrument was together it was cleaned. re varnished and french polished. Everything came together really well. I had the original F Franken bow that came with it was rebuilt (new frog) and re-haired.

2017-04-18: I sent the bow out for professional re-hair. Upon inspection the luthier found a small crack in the frog, which he said would be an easy fix. The crack was irreparable and the entire frog was replaced.

2017-03-15: New strings, varnish. peg shaper, Rosin, ebony pegs, sound post ,fine tuners, case

2023-04-01: Added KNA pickup vv-3

2024-05-01: The neck has started to open at the heel and shift, so it's about time for a reset on this old girl.
