1965 silvertone 1478 Year: 1965 Brand: silvertone Model: 1478 Class: guitar Owner: Jeff Hewitt Status: In Studio.
This one has been refinished badly in brown, so it needs a full strip and refinish and a refret. The 1965 1478 was available in two colors, a red burst and all red. This one was originally the common red burst, but I decided to go all red. I would have done the rare blue color but that wasn't introduced until 1967. So red it is!
Finally had time to strip and sand the body, grain seal and fill. Even got the first coats of red laid and color sanded before the cold weather set in.
Got the fret work on the neck all knocked out, a couple of cracks in the head stock, and its about ready for paint.
Finally finished it all up, but I missed a lot of picture ops on the way.
New bridge, nut, and paint, but everything else is 1965 original right down to the slot screws.
2023-11-01: Prepped the body, red base coat, refretted the neck, repaired headstock crack, base red on neck, west sanding, ordered white silvertone headstock decal.
2024-07-18: Paint all finished, buffed and assembly completed. I made a new rosewood bridge and bone nut as the originals were long gone.
